Soil Health
Healthy soil is the foundation of everything we grow.
When soil is alive, plants don’t just survive — they thrive. You start to see stronger growth, better resilience, and a system that works with nature instead of against it.
On our farm, everything begins with building soil that is full of life.
What is Soil Health?
Soil health isn’t just dirt — it’s a living system.
Healthy soil is made up of:
-
Minerals
-
Organic matter
-
Microorganisms
-
Air and water movement
-
Strong, stable structure
When all of these are working together, your soil becomes a supportive environment where plants can grow naturally and efficiently.
Why Soil Health Matters
When your soil is healthy, everything above it benefits.
-
Plants grow stronger and more resilient
-
Helps plants build natural resistance to pests and pathogens
-
Water is absorbed and held more efficiently
-
Roots can grow deeper and access more nutrients
-
Less reliance on synthetic fertilizers and chemicals
-
Long-term productivity improves year after year
Healthy soil doesn’t just grow plants — it supports plants in protecting themselves.
What Damages Soil
Over time, soil can lose its structure and life.
The two biggest contributors are:
-
Disturbance (tillage)
Excessive tillage breaks apart soil structure, disrupts microbial life, and reduces the soil’s ability to function as a living system -
Toxic chemicals
Anything designed to kill — whether it’s insects, weeds, or fungi — doesn’t just target one thing it disrupts and reduces the beneficial organisms living in the soil that plants depend on. When soil loses its biological life, it becomes harder to grow healthy plants without constant inputs.
How to Improve Soil Health
The goal is simple: bring life back into the soil.
This can be done by:
-
Adding organic matter
-
Supporting microbial populations
-
Improving soil structure
-
Focusing on biological processes instead of chemical inputs
-
Incorporating compost and worm castings to naturally improve soil health
By feeding the soil, you create an environment where plants can access what they need — creating a soil / plant relationship.
Our Approach
On our farm, we focus on working with nature — not against it.
We believe that when you take care of the soil, it takes care of everything else.
By building living soil through natural processes, we’re creating a system that is sustainable, productive, and continuously improving.
Learn More
There’s so much more happening beneath the surface than what we can see.
The soil food web is what brings everything together — microorganisms, organic matter, and the natural processes that support healthy plant growth.
